How to Integrate Technologies with the DMC

The Digital Manufacturing Commons wants to provide interested groups that want to integrate their technologies with ours, the opportunity and methods to do so. Below you can find the process we ask everyone interested in integrating their technologies with ours.

Members of Digital Manufacturing Design and Innovation Institute

If you or your organization is interested in a partnership or integrating your technology with the Digital Manufacturing Commons and you are a member of DMDII, please send an e-mail to askdmc@uilabs.org. Someone from the DMC team will then reach out to you to schedule time a one to two hour Technology Integration Session to assess the feasibility of merging our technologies. This consists of taking 30 minutes to discuss licensing and business cases as well as 30 minutes to discuss the code and technology itself.

It is helpful to send the current license file associated with the technology as well as any code that can be shared prior to the meeting so we can review and come prepared with questions. We are happy to sign any nondisclosure agreements to facilitate this process. After the meeting, we will inform you of when the technical integration can take place and what the next steps are.

Once we know when it is feasible to begin the integration process, we will schedule a second meeting to discuss the allocation of DMC team resources (amount of time available by DMC team member per week to help in the integration process, as well as virtual machine access).

Non-Members of Digital Manufacturing Design and Innovation Institute

The procedure for non-DMDII members is not much different than for DMDII members. The difference is that DMDII members and the DMC have a legal framework for collaboration and non-DMDII members and the DMC do not. Due to this, a DMC team member needs to vouch for the integration as well as must make sure that legal conditions as well as licensing terms are met.
