Drift Live Chat Integration

To increase effectiveness and speed, and to minimize confusion, the development team has integrated Drift software into the Beta release of the Digital Manufacturing Commons platform. This feature allows you to live chat with one of our developers or helpdesk associates while logged into the DMC platform. There is no longer a need to create a slack account or to write an e-mail in order to open a ticket with the DMC. You can now reach out to the team directly on the platform and have your issue evaluated relatively quickly.

How to Use

  1. After logging into the https://portal.opendmc.org, visit the FAQs or Contact Us pages.
  2. Locate the following icon at the bottom of the page and click on it:
  3. A window should open on the right hand side in your browser.
  4. You will be prompted to enter a message.
    1. You will also be prompted to enter an e-mail address.
      1. Your e-mail address is used to send you a copy of the conversation and is not actually required to chat with a developer or helpdesk person.

Note

The Drift Chat box is only available on the Contact Us and FAQ page. Navigating to a different page will close the dialog box. While working with a developer or helpdesk person you will be advised to open another tab in your browser in which you will work to fix the issue. If you do navigate away from the Contact Us or FAQs page, you will be able to continue the conversation where you left off simply by returning to one of those two pages (recommended to return to the one where you started your conversation).

Drift Navigation

  • The X button closes the window, but does not delete your messages
  • The Menu button shows you a list of previously held conversations
  • The "Type your message..." field is where you can write your messages to the person helping you.
  • "The EMAIL ADDRESS" box and field are used so you can get a copy of the conversation you had.

How to Close

When you are done, you can simply click on the black X (close) button in the right hand corner of the window in your browser and this will both close window and end your dialog with the developer/helpdesk associate. The person helping you will close the ticket on their end. If you have further issue, feel free to write back.
