Supported Browsers

The Digital Manufacturing Commons aims to be a browser agnostic platform. With that said, at this time the DMC currently only supports Firefox, Google Chrome and Intenet Explorer 11.

Logging In


Federated Login

If your organization has federated with the DMC, you will be able to log into the DMC using your organization credentials. If your organization has not federated with the DMC, you will still be able to log into the DMC using a google e-mail provider account. Before logging into the DMC, make sure that you are not logged into any e-mail accounts in the browser you are using.

        1. Go to portal.opendmc.org
        2. Now click on log in.
          1. Choose
            1. Your organization from the list of identity providers.
              1. If when you choose your organization federated account provider and you receive a "Shibboleth Error," please e-mail us at askdmc@uilabs.org so we can be made aware of this issue happening and we can work to resolve it.
            2. If not listed, choose google (if your organization uses Gmail for e-mail).
            3. Or you can also create an account on the DMC by choosing UI LABS Guest Account
              1. Choose to create a new account and you will then be asked to fill in the following:
                1. Name
                2. E-mail
                3. Phone Number (Not required)
              2. When you have completed the form, you will be sent an e-mail with a link to create a new password as well as to set your recovery questions.
                1. Password
                  1. Make sure that your password has at least one of each (capital character, lowercase character, number and special character), and is at least 8 characters long.
                2. Recovery questions
                  1. Your recovery answers need to be at least 5 characters long.

Onboarding

If you are a new user logging into the Digital Manufacturing Commons, use the following instructions to log in using the Federated Login instructions listed above.

        1. Return to https://portal.opendmc.org and click on login choose UI LABS Guest Idp once more.
        2. Log in using your credentials
          1. Allow the identity provider to share with opendmc if prompted.
        3. You are now logged into the DMC
        4. Follow the on boarding steps.
          1. Fill in your First and Last Name
          2. Input your company e-mail in the e-mail field.
          3. Select your organization from the auto complete list.
            1. If your organization in not a member of DMDII, choose Digital Manufacturing Commons or Check the Box that say you are not a DMDII Member.
          4. Accept the terms and conditions.
        5. Getting Your account Validated.
          1. If you are joining as a Friend of the Digital Manufacturing Commons:
            1. E-mail askdmc@uilabs.org with the subject line of Friend of DMC to have your account be validated.
          2. If you are joining as a member of DMDII
            1. Reach out to your organization administrator to be validated.
          3. If you are the Point of Contact for your organization and your organization is a member of DMDII, use the following instructions to validate your organization administrative account

Account Verification

Once you have created and account, your user will show up as unverified under your organization's profile page. This is when your organization administrator will send you a verification token if they believe you should have access. Once you've received the token, do the following.

        1. Log into https://portal.opendmc.org
        2. Click on your Display-name in the top right hand corner of the page
          1. Choose My Account from the drop-down menu
        3. Updade your first name, last name, e-mail address, and time zone and click on the green save button in the right hand corner of the form.
          1. You will not be able to update this information once you've verified your account.
        4. Update your Display-name to your full name if it is not already and click on the green save button in the top right hand corner of the page.
        5. Paste the verification code you recieved in the verification field and click on the green verify button to the right on the field.
        6. Refresh your browser and you will see you now have more items in your menu.

Configuring Your Account


My Account

The My Account section of the website is where you can set your First Name, Last Name, User Name, as well and Set your sharing permissions. This sections is also where you validate your account. To make these changes and navigate to the My Account section, click on your username in the top right hand corner of the website and choose My Account.

Basic Information

  • The Onboarding steps listed above should set your name and User Name but at the moment does not. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch. At this time it is recommended to set your User Name to your First and Last Name as this is tied yo your profile name.
  • If you are a member of the DMDII membership base, you will need to validate your account with your organization administrator. Your administrator will send you a validation code once you've created your account. Visiting this section of the website and click the green validate button will validate your account once you've received your validation code. Make sure you've saved your First Name and Last Name before doing so as your First Name and Last Name can not be changed once you've been verified with your organization without having to leaving your organization and being verified again.
    • Though not automatically apparent, changes you make to your account are updated once you've clicked the green save button and navigate to another part of the website.
    • If your organization administrator has not yet sent you a validation code you can request a validation code here and a notification will be sent your organization administrator if they've created an account.
    • If you've accidentally joined the wrong organization during the onborading steps listed above, you can join the correct organization, by searching for it in the organization field. Begin to type the organization name and then click on it's name when it shows up in the drop-down and then click the green save button.

Security

Here you can decide what information you wish to share with other users on the DMC.

  • The public section will make any information you provide visible to users that visit your profile page.
  • The member section will make any information you provide visible to all users that visit your DMDII Organization's Profile page.

My Profile

Your profile page is how other DMC users can discover more about you so it is important to keep this section of your account updated. To visit and edit your Profile page, click on your nane in the top right hand corner of the website, and then click on My Profile.

To edit your profile, click on the edit button found in the top right hand corner of the profile page. You'll be able to edit your:

      • Description
      • Skills
      • Job Title
      • Profile Picture

When done, make sure to click the green save button in the top right hand corner of the form.

DMC Key Features


Individuals

You can visit other DMC user profile pages by visiting the Individuals Section. To find it, click on the Explore item in the top menu. Choose Individuals from the drop-down menu that appears.

You can either look through all the users to learn more about them all, or you can search for the user you are looking for in particular.

User Profile Card

If you are looking for many users or if you want to quickly look through what other individuals are on the platform you can click on the "i" icon found on each user's card, this will bring up all of the user's information on the page you are currently on.

User Profile Page

If you want to visit an individual's profile page, click on their name and you will be redirected to their profile page.

If a user has decided to share their contact information, you will be able to find it year. Yo can also leave a rating for the user along with a comment that the user and all other users can read.

My Organization

Much like your profile, your Organization also has a profile page. To visit the My Organizations page, click on the My Organization item in the menu. You'll find all other users from your organization listed here as well as your company's description and skills your organizations deems as vital or important and much more.

Only Organization Administrators are able to make edits to what appears on the organization profile page. If you are the user who created the organization (not available during Beta release), you will automatically have access to made edits. If you are a member of DMDII, organization contacts have been sent e-mails with instructions on how to become the organization administrator of your organization.

Organizations

Much like DMC users, organization have their own profile pages as well

Organization Profile Card

If you are looking for many organization or if you want to quickly look through what other organization are on the platform you can click on the "i" icon found on each organization's card, this will bring up all of the organization's information on the page you are currently on.

My Workspaces

This can be found as an item under your user drop-down menu. Click on your name in the top right hand corner of the website, then click on the My Workpaces item that appears in the drop-down menu.

Marketplace

The Marketplace is the newest addition to the DMC platform, where you can find applications to help better your digital manufacturing needs. During the Beta release, you can find many demo applications to test out for free in the Marketplace. To visit the Marketplace click on the Marketplace item found in the menu.
